2022 is my year to get visible online. If you’ve followed me for a while, you may be familiar with one of my favourite phrases – ‘’done is better than perfect’’. I have rolled it out on many occasions. It serves as the launchpad for many ideas I have for my business and pushes me to take the action needed each time and this year is no different. In this blog I’m going to share my experience of getting visible online and the strategy I use with Latchgate.
So here we are. At the start of 2022 I committed to coming out of my comfort zone and showing my face online. Take a look at my personal social profiles or any of my family albums and you’ll quickly see who is more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. So, committing to showing more of me is a big deal – a really big deal. I’m sure a lot of you can relate. Being more visible online was imperative for the growth of my business. I have taken the bull by the horns and at the time of writing this blog, I am on number 5 of my weekly video series; a short recording sharing tips and updates from my role as a DOO. The feedback has been warm and well received and the reach across my socials has increased as a result. I am becoming visible to a wider audience and to more potential clients who are in need of my services.
If you need to take the step and become more visible online, here are some practical tips to get you started:
- Start small but have a plan
Setting out a plan of what and when you’re going to post on social media or write a blog is a good way to get you into a healthy routine. Block the time out in your diary to focus on the task and prioritise it as if it were delivering a project for a customer or client. Believe me, if you don’t do this you will struggle with consistency, and posting consistently is KEY to growing your audience.
2. Create pillar content and repurpose
Do you love writing more than speaking to camera? – write a blog. Maybe you hate writing but you love speaking your ideas? – start a video series. If you’re camera shy but you prefer speaking to writing – start a podcast. There is pillar content for everyone!

Whichever of these pillar content types you choose, make sure you make it work it’s socks off.
Here’s some examples how:
- Transcribe your video and turn it into a blog or take snippets from it and use them as a reel or a story for Instagram;
- Take three points from your blog and create a weeks’ worth of social media posts by expanding each point and adding a graphic to illustrate;
- Make an audiogram from a podcast episode and share the highlights that way.
- Transcribe your audio and turn that into a blog and/or your social media posts for that week.
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel each time.
3. Make it evergreen
Where possible, make the content you create about certain topics relevant and re-postable. Evergreen content is content that doesn’t go out of date. It revolves around a topic that’s always relevant to readers, regardless of the current news cycle or season. You’ll soon have a bank of content in your back pocket to pull from or highlight to the right person exactly when you need it.
4. Find the right tools
If you’ve been smart and created some evergreen content, you’ll want to maximise that by having a great social media scheduling tool in your toolbox. I use SmarterQueue because it allows posts to sit in a pile which recycles itself on autopilot. It’s a great way to ensure you have a constant stream of content flowing through your feed. Remember – being visible online is all about consistency, but let the tools do the hard work for you!
My other must-have tools are Canva for creating social media graphics, and Click-Up for organising your content plan and making things actionable.
5. Step out of your comfort zone a bit
I never thought I’d be doing weekly videos. The thought of it made my skin crawl, but I knew that to grow my audience and stay visible online I needed to embrace it. Instagram especially has changed their algorithm to prioritise and favour video content. If you’re really not keen on showing your face, check out @babrusa_social on Instagram for some great video ideas that don’t show your face.
6. Get some help!
There’s no denying that there is A LOT to take on when it comes to getting more visible online. These tips are a great starting point, but the biggest bit of advice I can give – honestly – is get some outsourced help. I took the leap to outsource my social media in 2020 and it was one of the best things I did. I’ve had time to focus on the parts of my business that truly light me up.
These tips are great starting points. Implement some of them and see where you go. It won’t be perfect each time but that’s ok – take the imperfect action and it’ll evolve in good time. Let me know in the comments what your plans are for getting more visible online this year. I’d love to cheer you on!
