Last week I had the pleasure of attending the EMC2022 Conference in London. It was a thoroughly inspiring event with some amazing keynote speakers coming together to celebrate entrepreneurship, share their wisdom and promote new ideas and ways of thinking.
Sharing ideas and learnings about our businesses is just one way we can help one another to progress and evolve, so today I am sharing three new ideas – taken from my own business journey this year – that might help your business in 2023. Let’s dive in!
- Goal setting and planning can and should take different formats
Planning and goal-setting is a hugely important end-of-year activity for me. I started this year off with my electronic diary and the task management tool ClickUp for all of my to-do’s, but over the first few months of the year, I started to find that the act of writing key events and plans was proving very helpful for me and made me feel more accountable. I didn’t ditch the online diary altogether, but did invest in some good quality physical planners, namely the Full Focus Planner and the Goal Planner from Charlie Day. The act of writing things down activates a different part of the creative brain, so why not try this for yourself in the new year?
2. Take the time to find your people
Are you working with the right people? This year I took some time to carefully assess my client base and make adjustments to my marketing so I would be talking directly to my target audience. It’s a daunting step this one, but 100% necessary for business owners who want to grow and develop in their chosen niche. I have worked with over twenty CEOs in 2022, all of whom have the same shared values, drive and passion for business. Spend some time evaluating your ideal client avatar and start creating marketing that speaks directly to them. You might lose some clients in doing this, but be honest – did you really enjoy serving them in the first place?
3. Always be learning (but tread carefully)
I’ve been guilty of ‘shiny new object syndrome’ many times in the past (I still am!) – the distraction of the ‘must have’ new course promising six-figure results in ten weeks. You know the ones! Whilst I am a big believer in self-development there is a distraction in buying into too many problem-solving resources and it can actually harm your personal development. Take stock of your goals and research your learning resources carefully so they support your goals for the long term. Ask yourself how you can develop your skills to serve your clients better, and have a budget!
What have your big lightbulb moments been this year? Share them in the comments below and let’s create more positive growth for ourselves and our businesses in 2023!
Lastly, I’d like to say a big thank you to all of my clients, it’s been a pleasure to work with you this year and I appreciate your continued support.
