When writing about time management, I would love to share a great historical quote with you by Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon said;
Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in.
What a great lesson; to actually take action when we go to war with oursleves – and we are all guilty of putting things off sometimes and ignoring them, thinking they will just go away or be forgotten. (But some of us love the rush or urgency to get things done)
I have also sometimes left things to the last minute, but I do know that with solid planning I am better focused and I do achieve more if I am not rushing.
Have you heard of the 80/20 rule?
This concept, also known as the Pareto Principle, originated with Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto. The idea is that 80 percent of your results come from only 20 percent of your actions.
Following this rule means that if you have 10 things to do, 2 of those things will make the biggest difference!
It is really simple to use – write down your to do list and then decide which 2 things are the most important to you and get on with them. This way you will prioritise the most important things and then the others will get done when you have ‘time to spare’.
I am also a great lover of Todoist – it is an app that lets you plan your to do lists by project, urgency, dates and all the possible variations you can imagine. Don’t worry I have no affiliation to the company, I am just letting you know that it works, and you can sync everything up across all your devices.
We all want to be more productive, achieve more during our working day and even at home with our families.
What would your to-do list look like if you tackled it using this 80/20 rule method?
