This week I am celebrating 3 years of Latchgate – how quickly did that time go??
We have all made changes to our ‘business as usual’ due to the current Covid-19 crisis around the world. Some business sectors have been hit much harder than others and only time will tell how many will come out of this and start growing again.
Hopefully as many as possible have been able to access some of the government help that has been offered.
Personally, I have rather enjoyed spending more time with my family, but I have realised that my fuse can get rather short with some of the daily tasks like home-schooling my little people.
But back to the question of what is an OBM?
The official explanation of what a “Certified OBM®” is…
Online Business Manager (OBM®):
A virtually based support professional who manages online-based businesses, including the day-to-day management of projects, operations, metrics and team.
This is a role I have been performing for some clients for quite some time, however, I did want to have a proper accreditation for it. This year I passed the International Association of Online Business Managers Certification with Tina Forsyth (Tina is the OBM guru and has written a fabulous book about it too).
I am pleased with this as I managed to do this while balancing family life, working from home, and completing a weeklong examination process in the middle of Lockdown! (Yes, a lot of coffee was consumed during that week.)
The role of an OBM is to make sure the right THINGS, get done at the right TIME, in the right WAY and by the right PEOPLE.
An Online Business Manager (OBM) is responsible for:
- Project Management – laying out plans and managing projects through to completion, including launches, managing programs, creation of new revenue streams, updating websites, etc.
- Operations Management – automating systems and creating processes for all day-to-day activities in the business to streamline and simplify how things are run
- Metrics Management – tracking statistics for key business activities and processes to see what is working and what is not working so that smart decisions can be made for ongoing growth
- People Management – outsourcing, managing, and leading the efforts of the team to meet business goals.
This is a senior role and focuses on business management rather than the doing. I have amazing Associate VAs on board if you need to start delegating, however, if you want a strategic partner who will be the buffer between your team and you; let’s have a virtual coffee to find out more – please book HERE.
